Art Subject Intent Statement:
In Art and Design, students explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings. They work with traditional and new media, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity, and learn to appreciate the physical finesses and demands of being an artist. They learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts across times and cultures, and to understand the contexts in which they were made. Fine art can provide an in depth approach to visual enquiry, including reflective annotation.
In Art, students reflect critically on their own and other people’s work, judging quality, value and meaning. They learn to think and act as artists, working creatively and intelligently. They develop an appreciation of art, and design, and its role in the creative and cultural industries that enrich their lives.
Art is one of the great cultural touchstones of the world; one which enriches us in so many ways. Great art work reflect the changes and values in our communities and societies. Art can stimulate thought and touch deep emotions, and is integral to all forms of visual communication.
At a deeper level, Art offers profound insights into the human condition, opening our minds to new perspectives and ways of thinking; through great works of beauty, students can engage with ‘the sublime’. The unique relationship between the artist and the audience endlessly creates new meanings and insights, and ennobles us in our day to day lives.
Continuous Curriculum Plan - Art:
Our Continuous Curriculum Plans (CCPs) navigate the academic journey of your child by subject from KS2 all the way up into KS5. They allow both staff, students and parents to be clear on what is being taught and where assessments lay in the school year, which in turn, gives students autonomy over their learning as it empowers them to prepare ahead of time.
